Quote of the Day: Ralph Waldo Emerson

One of these languages is the language of the violent side of Mother Nature.

Non-verbal communication is at the core of this language.

This includes what is communicated with eyes too.

One thing about non-verbal communication is that non-verbal behavior is hard and sometimes next to impossible to control.

Because a lot of human predators already have difficulty controlling their impulse, they tend to have little to no awareness of what they communicate to those around them with their non-verbal behavior.

Naturally, the more attention the attacker pays to the target, the less attention they end up paying to their own non-verbal behavior.

This gives us the opportunity to recognize certain non-verbal cues that warn us against an impending assault - including those that have to do with eye contact and staring in particular.

Developing an understanding of staring as a pre-attack indicator and learning to detect the different types of stares that attackers exhibit before they launch an assault turns us into a harder target to overwhelm.

Let us stay tuned to the language of the violent side of Mother Nature. Let us stay receptive to what human predators lurking in our midst reveal to us with their eyes.
