This quote comes from Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s work “Guerilla Warfare” and reflects one of the principles of fighting against an overwhelming force.
The principle applies just as much to the war of a different kind that we witness on the streets of our allegedly civilized modern human jungle.
Many human predators understand this principle well.
They leverage it in their favor by “seizing the high ground” before the assault.
Many human predators don’t launch their assault until they position themselves in a way that the target has little to no chance of evading or fending off the attack.
As they do that, though, they leave us clues about what they’re up to.
Spotting these pre-attack indicators gives us extra seconds to prepare for the violent encounter or get out of harm’s way while there’s still a chance.
We must remember that the assault that is not guaranteed to go as planned is the assault that the human predator is more likely to abstain from.
As we notice the human predator’s efforts to seize the high ground, we must use our vigilance to let the attacker rest assured that the assault is not going to go down the way they hope it is.
